The Man Behind the Mic

My name is Joseph J. Cherue I, popularly known as J Cheruei. I was born on September 4, 2002, in Montserrado County, District #16, Liberia. I am one of five biological siblings, and I was raised by my mother, Kitte K. Sabondo, and my stepfather, Harris G. Tue.

In June 2023, I experienced one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life when I lost my mother to cancer. She was more than a mother to me; she was my supporter, my source of love, and one of the people who believed in me. Her passing left a deep emptiness in my heart, but through the love and grace of God, I continue to find strength to move forward.

My Journey Through Music and Faith

My musical journey began in 2017. At first, music was simply about school vibes, rap battles, impressing girls, and throwing unnecessary bars. But in 2020, when I came to know Jesus Christ, my perspective began to change. I started to see the microphone not merely as a tool for entertainment, but as an instrument I could use to share the Gospel and touch lives.

I began reflecting on the pain I had experienced, the tears nobody saw, and the wounds in my heart that no human hand could completely heal. Through it all, I came to understand the healing power of God’s love. He met me in my loneliness, gave me a renewed sense of purpose, and inspired me to use my voice for something greater than myself.

Pursuing this musical calling has not always been easy. I made the difficult decision to leave my parents’ home to pursue my music journey, even though my family had a different path in mind for me. It has been a journey of sacrifice, faith, uncertainty, and perseverance. Yet, through every challenge, I continue to keep my eyes on God, trusting Him to direct my steps.

The Mission Behind the Music

Today, J Cheruei is more than a musical identity; it is a ministry with a mission. As a proud member of Elohim International Ministries, I am committed to using gospel rap, testimony, and street evangelism to reach people who have not yet encountered the love of Jesus Christ.

My personal brand slogan is “Jesus Muzic, For Jesus People.” It represents my desire to make music that points people toward Christ and reminds them that no matter how difficult life becomes, God’s love can reach them wherever they are.

I may not have the rap style everyone expects, and my journey is still unfolding. But my purpose is clear: I am not just chasing a sound; I am carrying a message. My heart is for the streets, for the broken, for those who feel forgotten, and for anyone who needs to know that there is hope in Jesus Christ.

I am J Cheruei. I am still growing, still learning, and still trusting God. My mission is to take the message beyond the four walls of the church, reach the streets, and help win the lost for Christ.

This is more than music. This is my testimony. This is my calling. This is Jesus Muzic, For Jesus People.
